We’ve all been to parties with some…interesting…games and as lemon & lime hits the final stages of planning an upcoming baby shower for our client and good friend, I have to ask you….do people still enjoy these games? Whether you’er the bride or the mother-to-be it’s obvious that everyone has their own opinion on party games so it is very important to understand how each of those ladies feels about this little activity. I, for one, am not a huge fan of being the center of attention so would prefer that if a game must be played that it does not revolve around me or a quiz — I get really nervous! I blame my former roommate (who shall remain nameless, you know who you are!) that used to make me watch Jeopardy but would yell out all of the correct answers before I got half way through reading the question (love you!).
Anyway, it has been decided that no games will be played at the upcoming shower (your welcome!) but I was definitely curious about this topic. I’ve done a bit of research (specifically for baby shower games) and have found a few fun and not so fun games. Again, this is just my opinion..check them out!
- Baby Bingo: Instead of having numbers in the boxes replace them with the names of traditional baby shower gifts. As the mommy-to-be opens her presents each guest who has that gift on their Bingo card can mark it off. As soon as someone receives bingo, they win the game and a prize. You can find a lot of baby shower Bingo templates online so this is pretty easy to create. This game also works well at bridal showers.
- Guess the baby pictures: Ask for everyone to bring a baby photo of themselves to the shower. Display all of the photos together and have guests fill in a sheet guessing whose photo is whose. If most women don’t know each other, just have the pictures of the mother, mother-in-law, sisters, and mommy-to-be. See how many people guess right. This gets everyone involved in the shower and is such a cute idea.
Not So Fun
- Guess Mom’s Tummy Size: This game is just cruel. Tape measure or not…please don’t make the woman measure herself in public much less have people guess just how big she is.
- Pass the Dirty Diaper: The host takes a diaper that has been “fixed” with warm chocolate in the right place and have the woman pass it to the woman next to them. When the host stops the music, whomever is holding the diaper is out of the game. So it’s like hot potato but not. Another version is the host puts a “poop like” substance in a diaper and everyone has to guess what it actually is. eek! I can see how these would be fun..however…I would be afraid I would lose my lunch in the diaper instead.
You’d be surprised at how many different ones are out there! If you’re a game lover then I applaud you, these can definitely be a good time.
